Crisis staff and crisis response team
Schools are well-organized systems that function with great efficiency under normal conditions. During a crisis, however, schools face unusual demands; they must adapt to unexpected and unpredictable influences.
Crises can occur in various ways at schools:
- Death/suicide of a student, of a staff member, or of any other community member whose death affects a significant portion of the school population.
- Situation that involves a perceived threat to the emotional and/or physical well-being of students or any other member of the school population such as may be precipitated by fire, threats, possession of a firearm or an amok run.
For the BNT too to effectively address the many issues that typically arise during a crisis, a preplanned, systematic organizational model to direct decisions is essential. The school crisis team positions are filled from among existing BNT school staff.
